WALL

Tutto ha origine da un muro: il muro della casa di famiglia a Mantova, caduto durante un bombardamento di guerra. Ma il muro è anche quello della cascina di fronte, il muro di un palazzo di città o quello dipinto dall’artista accanto al suo studio; comunque un muro che protegge e mai separa, che si fa superficie per tracciare un racconto lungo come una vita, memorie stratificate, ricordi che nascono dal sé per farsi universali.

Il muro è materia. Materiali che si sovrappongono, che si mescolano, quasi a simboleggiare la poliedricità creativa dell’artista: stracci, colore, carta, argilla, legno… assemblati a trovare la tridimensionalità là dove pareva negata. Il muro è quinta teatrale, scena, schermo davanti al quale (e con il quale) esibirsi. Nel muro la vena creativa di Freddi raggiunge il proprio compimento, la propria più profonda ragione d’essere; una superficie pittorica che si fa oggetto, si fa scultura, si fa installazione.

The wall is the starting point of Freddi’s artistic creation: the wall of his old house back in Mantua, fallen in a bombing during World War II; the wall of a farmhouse, of a city building, the one he painted near his studio.

In Freddi’s vision the wall is meant to protect, not to separate; the wall is also a blank space: everyone can start telling the story of his life from there, memory after memory. The wall is a concrete matter composed by many different layers mixed together. Rags, colours, paper, clay, wood…all these different materials put on top of each other are just another example of Freddi’s multifaceted artistic expression. In theatres the wall is a big part of both the stage and the backstage; it’s also a screen, and the actors must be able to perform in front of it as well as with it. Bruno Freddi’s creativity reaches its highest point with the wall because it’s a plain artistic surface that can be used as an object, an instrument, a sculpture or an installation. Thanks to the wall the artist can give vent to all his fantasy and talent.
